NVIDIA has spilled the beans on its upcoming GeForce GTX 1070, stating all the specs and providing first official benchmarks.
As NVIDIA sates, the GP104 GPU on the GeForce GTX 1070 is configured with 1,920 shader units, exactly a third less than the GeForce GTX 1080. Apart from the shader units, the smaller card offers 120 texture units and 64 ROPs. The ROPs consist of the memory interface, which in turn is made up of 32 bit blocks. Each of these 32 bit blocks has 8 ROPs, creating a total of 64.
The shader units operate with a base clock rate of 1,506 MHz and should reach at least 1,683 MHz under load. The 8 GB of GDDR5 memory is clocked at 2,000 MHz. NVIDIA states a typical board power of 150 W - 30W less than the GeForce GTX 1080.

Once again, the GeForce GTX 1070 will be available as a Founders Edition card directly from NVIDIA, in the reference design. The card will be available from 10 June for a price of 449 US dollars. First custom models are expected in the same time frame and ought to be a bit cheaper. Just like the GeForce GTX 1080, the GTX 1070 may require the new SLI bridges in an SLI configuration.
Apart from revealing the tech specs, NVIDIA also had something to say on the card's performance. For VR, the GeForce GTX 1070 is said to outperform the GeForce GTX 970 by 2,5 times For Rise of the Tomb Raider will also be 1,8 times better, while The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will run 1,6 times better than on the GeForce GTX 970. The benchmarks were created on a test system with an Intel Core i7-5960X and 16 GB DDR4 memory on a X99 motherboard.
The cooler is the same as on the GeForce GTX 1080, and the same technologies, i.e. Simultaneous Multi Projection, Async Compute, Fast Sync, VRWORKS Audio, GPU Boost 3.0, ANSEL and HDMI 2.0b and DisplayPort 1.3/ 1.4 are naturally also supported.
