Mini-ITX-cases are often used for HPTCs. Fractal Design sees the Node 304 as a HTPC-case as well. The optics of a case plays an especially important role in living rooms. The Node 304 did not disappoint us here. The aluminum front, which is rounded at the edges, looks simply precious. With the compact dimensions of 250 (B) x 210 (H) x 374 mm (T), the case does not need much space.

Looking from the front, it becomes even more clear how subtle the front has been designed. Only a small emblem and a status-LED break the uniform optics of the aluminum. You may wonder how Fractal Design hid the slots for optical drives. It is simple: not at all! There are not any regular 5.25 inch hard drive slots at all. You cannot even build in a slim-drive. The importance of optical drive is decreasing, indeed, but a slot for a DVD- or Blu-ray-drive in a HPTC cannot hurt even in 2012.

The convex front makes it possible for the fans to suck in air from above and below. The lid is shut. As with the Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced, the lid and the two side parts are one unit, which are disassembled together.

At the left of the case, there is a big air inlet, through which the graphics card is supplied with fresh air. A removable dust filter guards against dust coming in.
