Page 1: Test: ASUS MX279
When it comes to the appearance of a desk or workstation, the design of the monitor plays a major role. It often takes up a large part of the available space, so it's usually placed prominently in the middle of the table. It would be ideal to have case a monitor which offers a beautiful design, acting as a real eye-catcher. While many manufacturers still rely on deep black or gray cases, the new ASUS MX279H features a completely different design approach. It has been inspired by the appearance of a sundial, creating a monitor that is designed to visually enhance the workplace. But not only the design is absolutely fantastic. A reflective IPS panel with full HD resolution ensures a crisp picture, neutral colors and wide viewing angles. Read our review to find out more about this display.
Neverending beauty - the advertising slogan for MX279H. In the development of the monitor, high value was placed on the appearance. Inspired by the look of a sundial, ASUS created a precision design that has a convincing elegance in every aspect. Whereas most monitor manufacturers case their products entirely in plastic, ASUS uses some accents of metal in the MX279H. The lower edge of the display unit and the base are of a matte metal. She slim display unit should provoke quite a stir: it measures a mere 17.5 mm at the thinnest point. The edge-to-edge framing the IPS panel is also extremely slim, only 0.8 millimeters wide according to ASUS. But ASUS does not specify the width of the whole frame around the panel, but only the plastic surrounding the front unit. There are an additional ten millimeters which are not illuminated. Overall, the frame is still relatively narrow, with a width of eleven millimeters.
With the MX279H, ASUS wants to address a wide field of customers. Therefore, it is essential that the screen can also impress with its architectural values. The manufacturer outfitted the 27" model with an IPS panel, which - in addition to large angles of up to 178 degrees - provides a true color representation. The Full HD resolution, which monitors of this magnitude should have, provides a sharp display and lots of space when working, even if some other devices offer a higher resolution. However, the brightness of the backlight is of great importance for office use. The MX279H has a maximum luminance of 250 cd/m², which is completely adequate for use in averagely lit rooms. However, sights have to be lowered regarding ergonomics features. ASUS only implemented a tilt feature that allows the display unit to be tilted in a range from -5 degrees to +20. To make the MX279H also interesting for gamers, it sports a response time of five milliseconds.
